Queens, on a hexagon

A hex board has three line directions instead of two, and between them they reach all six neighbours of every cell. So one rule does the work of two — and every board can be reasoned out, with no guessing.

• Place exactly one queen in every row, every ↘ line, every ↙ line, and every coloured region.
• That is the whole rule — the three lines already keep any two queens from touching.
• Cross out the cells you have ruled out; placing a queen crosses out its lines for you.
• Three board checks per board show any mark that disagrees with the solution.
• Every board has exactly one solution, from 7 queens up to 11.
